NACTA Launches Chaukas (چوکس) Mobile Apps – A part of Tat’heer Drive

National Counter Terrorism Authority (NACTA) Pakistan has launched CHAUKAS Mobile Apps. This is second major project under Tatheer drive after launch of SURFSAFE web portal last year. These mobile apps are launched as part of TATHEER drive to eleminate extremism and Terrorism from Pakistan.

Chaukas (چوکس) is a user friendly mobile app to enable a common citizens of Pakistan to report any hate speech or extremist content in the form of video, audio, photo and URL/text visible to them. This content will be further investigated by relevant authorities and if needed necessary actions will be taken. Chaukas Apps will be published on both Google store and Apple store respectively for android and iOS users. These apps provide a user friendly interface where user experience is enhanced by localization in URDU language and provide users to either share thier details with authorities or keep them selves anonymous while report any content.

The Tat’heer drive of NACTA intends to achieve its goal by setting up a specialized National Cyber Counter-terrorism Unit (NCCU) with the following capacities:

1- Technological Cyber-security Analysis by employing Software Engineer(s) and developing state of the art software (like web spiders/crawlers, natural language processors and classifiers etc).

2- Internet Patrol Capacity which can glean through potentially extremist content and report it for blocking (through PTA) and/ or penal action under Pakistan Electronic Crimes Act, 2016 (FIA, NR3C, Cyber Crime Wing).

3- Develop and Disseminate Counter-narrative and project moderate values through academia, intelligentsia, cyber-activists, consultants and NACTA’s Committee on Counter-narrative thereby reclaiming space in cyber-space vis-a-vis radical and extremist propaganda.
